Although none of us likes to think about it, things do go wrong from time to time. If 2020 is anything to go by, they can go wrong a lot more than we think. I try to keep some money in a savings account for a rainy day because you can just bet that the freezer or cooker will break at the wrong moment. However, I also wanted to talk to you about ways you can be protected so that when things do go wrong you have less to worry about. We have a young family so being prepared for anything to happen has become a part of our life!

Guarantees
If you have any kind of appliance at home, then it usually comes with some form of guarantee. This could be a standard 14 days return or with bigger purchases (you know I love a kitchen appliance! They usually come with an extra 2-year guarantee, but you might have to do it online or fill out some paperwork. Make sure you do it! It’s technically free cover! Appliances soon become part of the family and much loved, but if they start to break, then the cost for fixing or replacing them can soon add up! Although I am sure most of us would pay whatever it takes to fix them, sometimes we just don’t have the money or we have other things that the money could also be spent on. If you look up different products then you’ll be able to compare the guarantees, so long-term it’s definitely worth the little bit of hassle.
Landlord Insurance
Quite a specific one, but if you have invested in property and have tenants, then landlord insurance is something I would definitely consider. I know that tenants pay a deposit which can cover you against most things, but if the repair bill for something comes to more than their deposit, or something happens that wasn’t their fault you could be left with a costly bill to pay. Much like anything else, you should shop around and ensure you compare landlord insurance options, so you know you’re getting the best deal.

Home Insurance
There are different types of home insurance, so it is worth investigating the options and working out what is best for you. At the basic level, you can get something that just covers you for utilities and electrical goods –so if your washing machine does break at the wrong time, you don’t have to worry too much about the cost! There is loads of advice on home insurance online so before you commit to any policy I would recommend to do some reading and see what is out there, so you can decide what is best for you and your needs.
