No matter where you live, community is essential to well-being. The decline of connectedness in our society comes at a time when mental health issues are also on the rise. In fact, one study found that more than one in four participants between the ages of 14 and 47 stated they were suffering from loneliness.
We’re naturally social animals with an instinct to find strength in numbers. While having a small, close circle of people to turn to is important, larger circles are as well. In fact, our happiness and health, both mental and physical, depend on it. If you’re looking for a new place to live where the people understand that, touring the St. Albert homes for sale is a good idea as residents are all about community here. It’s not just something that’s talked about, it’s what they do.

Neighbourhood Connector Program
St. Albert hosts the Neighbourhood Connector Program with the purpose of bringing neighbors together to foster a sense of belonging in order to improve safety while also providing both emotional and mental support. Not only does it help adult residents, but it helps children and teens thrive.
The program provides “Connectors” with a supportive team, ideas for connecting, and more as. The Welcome Package includes resources and direct access to mentors, online tools, access to gatherings, and more. Connectors are encouraged to introduce themselves to people in the community, plan or initiate social gatherings, invite others to help, and assist in connecting everyone together.
Neighbourhood Connectors join the larger community effort to build connectedness and a sense of community throughout the city, on every street, in every home, apartment complex, and condo building.
Community Information and Volunteer Centre (CIVC)
The CIVC was formed with the understanding that building community stems directly from appreciating volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to give back and get back in return. There are many St. Albert residents who are giving their time to help others and CIVC partners with local coffee businesses to distribute coupons to volunteers for free coffee, thanking them for their contributions.
It’s Inclusive
St. Albert makes it well-known that people of all backgrounds, cultures, and ages will be welcomed, respected, and supported. This city is run by those who know that communities are stronger when there are a diverse array of perspectives and backgrounds, providing long-term, positive impacts. In fact, it was one of the first municipalities to join the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities to fight against discrimination and racism in 2008. The goal is to ensure a barrier-free society where everyone can benefit from cultural, social, economic, political, and recreational life, with the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Low Crime Rates
St. Albert is often ranked among or at the top of the safest cities in Alberta by the annual policing reports. In 2016, it had the lowest crime severity index in the province, one that’s well below the country’s average. That comes from strong communities with people who care. When neighbors know each other, they look out for each other, making it easier to prevent crime.
