A friend of mine told me about a new hobby she has recently – she’s joined a snack swap group on Facebook and sends snacks from the UK to people abroad, and they send snacks back to her. She’s swapped with Uganda, America and Australia so far – I have serious snack envy! If you see how good some of them look! I want to try them all. However, she did warn me, it isn’t a cheap hobby, each parcel costs around £30 to post and of course, you have to shop and fill it with snacks first.
It got me thinking, what do people do when they need to ship bigger, heavier items abroad. For example, if you’re wanting to send this abroad to family or you’re moving internationally, how do you do that without breaking the bank. IT can cost a small fortune in the UK, let alone overseas.

Moving Large Items Abroad
I came across a company called ITP Packaging and as their name suggests, they have a range of packaging options available. I liked the idea of their steel drum package options because it meant you could pack LOADS in and you know what you’re posting is safe! (I did wonder how many snacks you could put in one of these haha!). However, I did notice that they have loads of plastic contains, fibre drums and all sorts, it was good to know that if I did need to ship something abroad I could do it and it wouldn’t be any hassle at all. I’ve only had to send something super large abroad once. IT was a life size cardboard cut-out of myself for my best friend’s wedding in Canada. I’m not even joking! It was going to cost so much that I actually ended up buying it in the US and shipping it to Canada because it was so much hassle trying to get one from the UK.

Admittedly, it’s not something I have considered before but I guess people must have a need to do that all the time. The peace of mind that using something so sturdy must give is great – because no one wants to ship off a load of items to friends and family and spend the whole time worrying about whether they’ll reach their destination in one piece!
Have you ever used a shipping company like this, any tips on how to help things go smoothly?
