With more of us having the opportunity to work from home and/or remotely trying to make things balance at home between work and family is high on the list of importance. Of course, in an ideal world, we’d all have a separate office space away from the rest of the house where we can work without disturbance, but for many of us, that is not the case at all. In fact, sometimes trying to work with small children around and a husband that needs attention can make it tempting to head back to the office to complete your working hours. However, the fact that it is tricky isn’t a reason to give up – instead, it’s important to look at how you can adapt your workspace at home to work for everyone.

Set Yourself up a Space
Think about where in your home is the best place to set up a workspace from. As tempting as it can be to work from the sofa or whilst propped up on some piles in bed, this isn’t good for your body or your motivation. Many people find their kitchen is a good place because it isn’t somewhere the family congregate for long periods of time, so for a good chunk of your day, you’ll be alone.
Handy Things To Help
It is worth considering what things you can invest in to make your working day easier – a headset for making and receiving calls for example. These are often designed to cut out background noise anyway and can make your life much easier. Things like soundproof pods are a worthwhile investment too – they give you an opportunity to take yourself away for a few moments to make a confidential phone call or even have a meeting with someone away from the hustle and bustle of your busy home life.
Home Office Essentials
A decent desk and chair are a must – there is no problem working from your dining table if this offers a good level for your keyboard and mouse to be on, but you most definitely need to consider a suitable chair. When you’re sat down for a large chunk of your work day, you need to be comfortable and supported. Making your space somewhere nice to work, even if you have to pack some of it away each day is a great way to ensure working from home is as fun and fulfilling as possible.
If you have any tips on how to make working from home in a busy kitchen work for you then I’d love you to share them.
